One of the largest PROJECTS Douglas Electric has been involved in was the ROMULUS ATHLETIC CENTER.We were hired by J.S. VIG CONSTRUCTION COMPANY as the contractor of choice to provide electrical services for this plan/spec project for the City of Romulus.
The Romulus Athletic Center is a beautiful, state-of-the-art facility. Its 88,000 square feet include an aquatic center with five pools, basketball courts and gyms, exercise areas, a café, outdoor lighted walking trails and a lighted parking lot. Our team had 5-10 electricians on-site every day, wiring the facility section by section. We ran 12 miles of electrical conduit to feed a pool and water slide, rock-climbing walls, and kitchen and concession areas.
One of the most challenging parts of this project was the AQUATIC FACILITY. This complex includes an indoor water park with splash pool and 240 foot long lazy river, a 25 yard, 10 foot deep lap pool, a hot tub, and an outdoor splash pool with a 300 gallon tipping bucket. The aquatic area involves the management of 280,000 gallons of water. If you like trivia, that’s almost twice the amount of water that flows over the U.S. side of Niagara Falls each second!
The Douglas Electric team has a LONG-STANDING REPUTATION for open communication and collaboration, and this project was no exception. We coordinated with the other contractors on-site, worked through design changes as they came up, and maintained consistent communication with the customer. Our role in the development of the Romulus Athletic Center took a little over a year to complete. After the project was finished, we were very happy to continue our relationship with J.S. Vig Construction Company, and work with them on other projects in the City of Romulus, including the Romulus Senior Center, Romulus Animal Shelter, and the installation of street lighting.
Douglas Electric Company is proud to have played a role in providing this important recreational space to the people of Romulus and the surrounding communities.
